someone in [info]americanidol has a question of opinion about last night's "Shout to the Lord" performance.

Arguments ensue.....[info]missladyvenus suggests that the contestants should feel obligated to sing that song due to being in the "Christian country".

OT but it's funny to me when people use being an atheist or whatever as their reason why they wouldn't like it. I'm a joo and I'd still be peeved if I had to sing some religious song, even if it was a "Jewish" one or something. It's the principle of the thing.

Anyway, lololol Christianity is our national religion now? Guess she was asleep during that week of 6th grade social studies.

Haha, what? The Pilgrim's intentions were to escape religious persecution...

Not to mention separation of church and state and so on...

[info]tomecatti

April 11 2008, 15:49:26 UTC 4 years ago

Hah. What a utopic view of the pilgrims you have. As soon as they were free from the persecution against them, they started persecuting the religions that weren't theirs.

Pilgrims, Puritans, Quakers, etc... does it really matter? I mean we aren't giving that full history lesson here and considering they all pretty much merged in the end to form a protestant religion. And Quakers are just descendants of Pilgrims I believe.

There are so many things wrong right there. Honestly, what are people teaching in history classes these days?

*busting a gut over the idea of protestants merging*

At least not before marriage!

Anytime someone starts a statement with, "As a (fill in the blank)" you know they're about to start spouting crap. "Hey, I'm on this team! That gives me credibility!" If your opinion can't stand without a group affiliation to prop it up, it's a pretty lame opinion.

I reuploaded this icon for this occasion.

The USA is founded on Christianity. It's a national fact and metioned that we are freed to practice other religions. Our core religion is Christianity.

*twitch*

How hard is it to pick up a damn history book? How about read what our Constitution says? The government can neither create its own religion, or endorse one religion over another. We have never had an "official" or "core" religion in this country. What we've had is asshats who ignore the Founding Fathers' vision for our country.
